If this isn't enough to deter you from playing this dump, then God bless you and good luck. Eventually we just passed them and moved on. And through all this there was no marshal to rectify the situation. I understand that there are novice golfers out there, but when you're reaching a par-3 hole in 5 you need to let the people behind you move on. In addition, they were so drunk one of them decided to relieve himself in the middle of the adjacent fairway as they were coming back from retrieving their ball. A twosome ahead of us were playing slower than a foursome ahead of them. There was one marshal patrolling the course, and, consequently people were playing like as if they owned the course. The Contraband Bayou Golf Club is on the west side of Lake Charles off I-210 at Nelson Road adjoining the L'auberge Casino. On the third hole, I hit a 9-iron to reach the green in 2 but the ball literally bounced off the green as if i hit a cart-path. About 80% of the greens in the course had missing patches of grass, weeds, and was hard as a rock. Making to approach, I was utterly disgusted at the conditions of the greens. You can play at muni courses in Houston that are in way way way better condition that that of Contraband. Contraband Pointe offers: Beautiful Contraband Bayou proximity to 17 hotels (1 is a motel) and 2 casinos/golf resorts: Golden Nugget and LAuberge Hotel. With that in mind, why are the fairways and roughs dry, brittle and brown like as if it was February? Fine, you can say that you had a dry season but for a course of this caliber it's absolutely inexcusable. For those of you that are not familiar with this area, the weather stays pretty mild (high 80's) up until the end of October. I travel around TX quite a bit and I have to say that I've played in courses under better conditions for $25 fees. The 18-hole course features breathtaking 419 bermudagrass-lined fairways and champion ultradwarf bermudagrass greens. ![]() The 7,077-yard, par-71 course was designed by famous golf architect Tom Fazio.
